In a recent CBV Institute webinar, John Drake, CBV and Greg Wright, Managing Director & Head, Western Canada, both from RBC, updated us on the state of Canadian mid-market M&A. This highlight video features their outlook for 2023 and 2024, and some observations around the recent up-tick in add-on activity and smaller transaction sizes.

• Deal volume in Canadian M&A has decreased in recent quarters, as a function of uncertainty.
• Buyers are increasingly using structure to share risk and uncertainty with sellers, in the form of enhanced earn-outs and rollover equity. The presentation includes closed deals data from RBC’s Mid-Market M&A team, including average cash on close (as a %).
