2021 ANNUAL AND SPECIAL MEETING OF MEMBERS

CBV Institute’s 2021 Annual and Special Meeting of Members will be held on June 14, 2021, at 3:30 PM ET. The meeting will be held electronically using a corporate governance platform provided and hosted by GetQuorum.

You should receive an email from GetQuorum on May 11, 2021 giving Notice of the meeting and advising you how to attend. In addition, you will be asked to submit a proxy if you cannot attend. Materials for the meeting will be distributed through the GetQuorum platform. QUEBEC REGIONAL DIRECTOR RESULTS

Nominations for the election of a Director by those Members whose principal place of business is in the Province of Quebec were called for earlier this year.

Catherine Tremblay, CPA, CA, CBV, ASA, CFF, was declared the winner by ballot for a three-year term commencing after the Annual Meeting of Members on June 14, 2021.

Catherine is a Partner at MNP in its Montréal office and is the firm's Leader of Business Valuations and Litigation Support Services for the Québec Region.

PRACTITIONER SURVEY - LIMITED CRITIQUE REPORTS

Calling all CBVs and Students who issue Limited Critique Reports! CBV Institute is conducting a short, 10-minute survey (access it here) and needs your views and input to better inform a review of the Institute’s practice standards for Limited Critique Reports. We want to better understand the issues and challenges CBVs face in practice when providing limited critique reports. The results of this survey will assist CBV Institute’s Professional Practice and Standards Committee. The comments are anonymous and responses received will be kept confidential. This survey will be open until May 7th.

PRACTICE INSPECTION FINDINGS RELEASED

We are pleased to share the results of the second year of the Practice Inspection Program in the 2020 Practice Inspection Report. The 2020 inspections covered work products issued during January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019. Overall, the 2020 inspection results were positive; however, there were areas where compliance with applicable professional standards can be improved.

MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS RESOURCES

This week is Mental Health Week in Canada. During these challenging times, we at the Institute are mindful of the anxieties that may be felt by CBVs and Students adapting to the new normal. It is normal to feel anxious and afraid as we continue to deal with effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. While this situation is stressful for all, people living with mental illness may be finding it especially difficult to cope. Remember: no matter where you are or what you’re going through, you don’t have to go through it alone. To that end, we are sharing these available resources for mental health and well-being which can lend support to you or to someone you know.

Value or Values: Incorporating ESG into Firm Valuation

Capital market participants are increasingly considering Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues when assessing companies and their valuations as they make investment decisions. Companies in turn are responding to this interest by providing (a lot) more information on the ESG aspects of their business, either by mandate or on a voluntary basis. Despite these changes, there is currently no consensus yet on what the ‘best’ way forward is to integrate a focus on ESG with the workings of the traditional shareholder-based capitalist system.
