MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED

A reminder to all individuals who have satisfied all requirements of membership and are looking to submit their applications for the final membership intake in 2022, the extended deadline is approaching quickly.

Individuals who hold a university degree, have completed the Program of Studies, have sufficient experience hours, and who wrote the MQE in September of a particular year, may apply for membership on a conditional basis (after the date of the MQE and before the November 3rd intake deadline). If such individuals are successful on the MQE, they will be approved for membership in late November/ early December. If such individuals are not successful on the MQE, their membership application will be deleted/destroyed.

MEMBER COMMENTS INDICATE SUPPORT FOR REVISIONS TO VALUATION STANDARDS

The comment period for the Institute’s Re-Exposure Draft with proposed revisions to Practice Standards Nos. 110, 120, 130 (Independent Valuation Conclusions and Valuation Reports) closed on September 30, 2022. The Institute received a total of 20 responses from Members and firms. The Professional Practice and Standards Committee (PPSC) wishes to thank respondents for their thoughtful feedback, which provided fulsome comments from a diverse cross-section of members.

NEW CBV INSIGHTS ON DAMAGES RELEASED

CBV Institute is pleased to release our most recent insights paper titled, Expectation Damages vs Reliance Damages – A Financial Expert’s Perspective, written by Ivy Tse, CBV, and Eric Mah, CBV. The paper examines the topics of expectation damages and reliance damages, beginning with an overview of the two types of damages. It then proceeds to review some relevant judicial decisions, which provides some guidance in the selection of an appropriate damages approach. Lastly, the paper provides a list of potential considerations, from the perspective of financial experts, in calculating expectation and reliance damages. Read More…

Granting of the Fellow designation is the highest honour CBV Institute confers. The FCBV recognizes those Members who have demonstrated acknowledged achievements in the following fields of activity:

Life Member Designation

The designation of Life Member is granted to Members who have attained eminence in the field of business valuation and who have retired from active practice as a business valuator.
