We are seeking an Associate to join our team in Kelowna for a unique role that combines highly analytical business valuations and fast-paced rewarding M&A transactions. We are a driven and collaborative team who, through Spence Valuation Group, provide objective and independent valuation services to both private and public companies across a broad range of industries. Through SVG Capital Group we provide middle market M&A advisory services to business owners throughout British Columbia.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an individual whose proven academic excellence, strong technical ability, problem solving skills, and passion for client services will enable us to further establish our position as leaders in our market. Working directly with the firm’s principal, this client-facing role will provide experience in business valuations in support of transactions, matrimonial disputes, shareholder disputes and corporate reorganizations; damages and economic loss quantifications in a litigation context; and M&A advisory services including divestitures, acquisitions, due diligence, and quality of earnings reports. Responsibilities will be commensurate with experience, but the right candidate will be managing multiple valuation files and be an integral member of our deals team, interacting directly with business owners, lawyers, and external advisors. Core Responsibilities:

  • Create, review, and deliver valuation models including forecasts, earnings analyses, and discounted cash flows
  • Perform detailed financial analysis
  • Work in a team environment on the development of financial analysis and reports
  • Interface with clients and present internally and externally the results of our analysis
  • Research comparable transactions and industry trading metrics in support of private company valuations
  • Conduct and summarize industry and economic research
  • Develop, draft, format and prepare high-quality client deliverables including valuation reports and key M&A marketing materials
  • Assist other team members in advancing strategic initiatives, marketing, and business development that could include:
    • Perform industry and target company research to identify prospective clients or learn about targeted businesses
    • Support and deliver presentations to clients, industry and organizational events and other forums
    • Identify and participate in business development opportunities
    • Draft presentations to prospective clients and influencer groups on topics such as business sales, valuation, and exit readiness
    • Monitor external news and transaction activity for information that is relevant to potential clients and team members

Candidate Credentials:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designation
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Highly analytical and detail oriented
  • A problem solver with strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Entrepreneurial and self motivated
