CBV IN THE SPOTLIGHT: ANNE DAVID

This month, we are shining the spotlight on Anne David and her achievements and contributions to the CBV community.

Anne recently joined Fiera Comox Partners as Vice President, Valuations.

In her former role as Head of Valuation at Investissement Quebec, she laid the foundation of their valuation department and helped strengthen their valuation for financial reporting procedures.

She has also been an active member of CBV Institute’s Education Committee and served as a teacher to students enrolled in the CBV Program of Studies.

UPDATE TO KROLL’S COST OF CAPITAL GUIDANCE

Kroll has increased its recommended U.S. equity risk premium (ERP) from 5.5% to 6.0% when developing USD-denominated discount rates as of Oct. 18, 2022. This is matched with the higher of a normalized risk-free rate of 3.5% or the spot 20-year U.S.

For Canada, the Kroll normalized risk-free rate remains at 3.5%. However, Kroll recommends using the spot Government of Canada Benchmark Long-Term Bond yield as the proxy for the risk-free rate if the prevailing yield as of the valuation date is higher than the normalized Canadian risk-free rate of 3.5%. This Kroll guidance is effective when developing CAD-denominated discount rates as of October 18, 2022, and thereafter, until further guidance is issued.

SURVEY OF CANADIAN ARBITRATION COMMUNITY

Senior arbitration practitioners, with the support of FTI Consulting, is undertaking a survey of stakeholders in the arbitration community, including arbitration counsel, arbitrators and tribunal assistants, and experts, to compile a profile of commercial arbitration in Canada for the Canadian Arbitration Report 2023. FCBV Designation

Granting of the Fellow designation is the highest honour CBV Institute confers. The FCBV recognizes those Members who have demonstrated acknowledged achievements in the following fields of activity:

• provided distinguished service to the business valuation profession, and
• brought significant recognition to the business valuation profession.

Life Member Designation

The designation of Life Member is granted to Members who have attained eminence in the field of business valuation and who have retired from active practice as a business valuator.
