QUEBEC REGIONAL DIRECTOR ELECTION

On January 8, 2021, a Notice of Election, with supporting documentation, was emailed to the Members in the Province of Quebec. The deadline for receipt of the nomination form is March 31, 2021. We encourage everyone who feels that they can make a contribution to the Board and support the CBV Institute’s vision to give consideration to seeking a nomination. We will disclose to all Members, prior to the close of the nominating period, the names of those nominated in this Region along with a summary of their biographical and professional background.

PROGRAM OF STUDIES BILINGUAL MARKERS NEEDED

CBV Institute is looking for bilingual markers who have successfully completed the MQE. The marking position responsibilities include:

  1. Reviewing the French/English translation for the 4 core course exams, once per term,
  2. Marking French exams for the 4 core courses,
  3. Marking exam appeals for French exams.

FASB MOVES TOWARDS GOODWILL AMORTIZATION

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has made the decision to move towards a goodwill amortization model for public companies. FASB has decided to allow entities to amortize goodwill on a straight-line basis over a 10-year default period unless they elect and justify another amortization period based on the facts and circumstances of the acquisition. FASB is performing additional research and outreach, and an Exposure Draft will be forthcoming in the future.

Association for Corporate Growth Annual Conference

The Association for Corporate Growth will hold its second annual conference on February 10 and 11.  The theme of this conference is "Canadian M&A - Emerging Trends and Opportunities in a Post-COVID Market"; it will focus on capital market opportunities that are trending within the Canadian and U.S. private equity and M&A sectors. CBV Members/students are able to attend the event at the rate of $99 +HST that is offered to ACG members.
