Senior Financial Analyst

About the Role:

Reporting to the Sr. Manager M&A and FP&A, this position will assist with financial modelling and analysis of potential acquisition opportunities as well as corporate planning and analysis to aide in the continued strategic growth of our organization. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Calgary, Alberta.

Key Responsibilities:

Mergers & Acquisitions

  • Prepare financial models, valuation, EBITDA calculations and various scenario analyses
  • Assist with strategic deal negotiations and work closely with senior leadership to help support those negotiations
  • Prepare all accounting related backup and calculations for all executed transactions
  • Assist in preparation of internal discussion documents, Board materials, and external presentations
  • Conduct relevant industry, market, and competitive research
  • Design and prepare templates and presentation materials

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Providing business analysis and support relating to the evaluation of the efficiency, effectiveness and competitiveness of current and future projects, commercial activities and potential strategic transactions
  • Develop strong relationships across the business, especially with respect to operations to ensure a strong understanding of operational drivers and opportunities
  • Prepare budgets and forecasted financial results
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of operational results
  • Work collaboratively with practice partners and corporate team to deliver consistent, accurate, and timely financial information to internal stakeholders
  • Prepare and integrate internal data to analyze, make recommendations to support business strategy, and prepare business plans
  • Support with ad hoc projects and initiatives as needed

About You:

The Senior Financial Analyst will possess strong quantitative, critical thinking, data analysis, and interpersonal skills. Excellent analysis and business modelling, a natural comfort with managing and interpreting data, and an appreciation for detail will define success in this role.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or CFA designation preferred
  • 3+ years’ work experience in an M&A or similar role
  • CBV or working towards a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) would be an asset
  • Excellent computer skills, including expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong project management and team skills, including the ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with a results-oriented business approach
  • Ability to effectively perform in a fast-paced, start-up environment – comfortable creating new systems and procedures with limited resources and need for speed to implementation
  • Keen attention-to-detail and time management skills
