FRENCH MQE MARKERS URGENTLY NEEDED

We are urgently seeking French-speaking CBVs to act as markers for the 2022 MQE Marking Centre, taking place on Saturday, November 5, 2022 and Sunday, November 6, 2022. The MQE Marking Centre will be operating remotely, and markers will be compensated for their time.

COURSE CONTENT AUTHORS NEEDED

CBV Institute is seeking CBVs to author course content for some new topics being introduced in the Program of Studies. For this paid opportunity we are looking for individuals with at least 5 years of in-depth experience in any of the topics below. Previous authorship experience is a significant asset.

Metals and Mining – i.e. valuation of a single mine asset
Forestry – i.e. valuation of timberlands and pulp & paper mills
Power generation – i.e. valuation of single asset power generation facilities (thermal and/or renewable)
International cost of capital
ESG and its implications in a business valuation context

ED&I COUNCIL - CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Would you like to have an impact on advancing inclusion across the CBV community, our profession and beyond? The Institute has formed its first ever Advisory Council for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I), and we are looking for interested Members to round out the Council. If you have a passion for, or experience in, ED& initiatives, and/or if you self-identify as being part of an underrepresented community in the business valuation profession, this is a terrific opportunity for you to help shape the direction of CBV Institute’s ED&I initiatives.

This Re-exposure Draft concerning proposed revisions to the practice standards for independent valuations (Practice Standards Nos. 110, 120 and 130, or “the Standards”) is issued by The Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators (“CBV Institute”) for comment. This is the second exposure draft on this topic and is an update to the exposure draft dated June 3, 2021. This Re-exposure Draft contains proposed changes which impact all valuation conclusions and reports, including Calculation Valuation Reports.

All comments must be submitted by September 30, 2022.

DATA ANALYTICS COURSES - DISCOUNT ACCESS EXTENDED

In the 2021 Member/Student Survey, respondents indicated that opportunities for training in data analytics would be valuable and appreciated. CBV Institute is pleased to announce that it has negotiated a discounted rate for CBVs and Registered Students for ICAEW’s (Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales) Data Analytics Certificate Programme.

The certificate programme, available in both management and analyst streams, is specifically tailored for the finance profession, teaching leaners how to apply data analytics to answer practical business questions. Of relevance to most CBVs, the management pathway is designed for finance leaders seeking to understand the business benefits of applying data analytics, how to develop operational data analytics capabilities, or how to interpret data analytics output. Completion of this programme counts towards up to 30 verifiable CPD hours for the Management pathway and up to 60 hours for the Analyst pathway.

NEW IVSC PERSPECTIVES PAPER

The latest IVSC Perspectives Paper, 'Unlocking the Potential of ESG', explores the findings of a recent survey, looking at the extent to which ESG is currently being considered by different stakeholders across the world in the valuation process. In the past few years, the consideration of ESG within the valuation process across all specialisms (business valuation, financial instruments, and tangible assets) has gained greater attention, and the explicit consideration of ESG within the valuation process has become a key topic for the IVSC.

CBV Institute routinely works with IVSC staff and contributes to IVSC perspectives papers on a variety of current topics. The IVSC's ESG working group, of which the Institute is a part of, carried out a survey of investors, businesses, and valuation practitioners in order to gain an understanding of the stage of evolution and development of each, in their consideration of ESG components. The results may signal a move towards more explicit requirements on ESG within IVS.

When it comes to valuing pharmacies, it is of the utmost importance to understand the unique business challenges they face as a significant number are franchisees of large pharmacy chains.
