UPCOMING PROGRAM OF STUDIES DEADLINES

Scheduling Exam Deadline – Friday, October 21

If you haven’t already, please schedule your course exams on Examity by October 21. Due to an upgrade in Examity all students must create Examity profile first. Detailed instructions on how to create a profile and schedule exams is provided on Moodle under “Examity Student User Guide”.

Exam Opt-Out Deadline – Monday, October 24

York University will send all students a link to opt-out of their course exam if they so wish. After opting-out of an exam, a reduced re-enrolment price will automatically apply when you register for that course in the next semester. Students will not be permitted to opt-out of their exam after this deadline.

Deadline to Apply for Academic Accommodations – Monday, October 24, 2022

In order to apply for academic accommodations, students may submit the appropriate documentation to education@cbvinstitute.com.

Practice Quiz Completion - Thursday, October 27

Registration for the Examity Practice Quiz is open to all students in the CBV Program of Studies, and mandatory for all students in the Level I BV course. The practice quiz must be completed by October 27.

WEBINAR SERIES ON BUSINESS VALUATION & ESG

We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for the first of our three-part webinar series on ESG. Stay tuned for more on part two and part three, scheduled for December and January 2023, respectively.

Join our esteemed panel as they dive into the capital allocation decision-making process at mid-market private equity firms. The panel will explore the following factors:

  • The impact of ESG on fundraising discussions with institutions and capital providers;
  • The ways mid-market PE firms are integrating this feedback into their target investment profile and parameters; and

BUSINESS VALUATION CHALLENGE 2022

We encourage you to share this event with any undergraduate students, student groups, instructors and/or professors you may know!

Registration for the 2022 Business Valuation Challenge, a national business valuation case competition for undergraduate students across Canada, is now open. The Challenge will be taking place on November 17 and 18, 2022.

NEW IVSC INSIGHT – RETHINKING BRAND VALUE

As part of the IVSC’s Business Valuation Standards Board, CBV Institute routinely contributes to IVSC Perspectives Papers on a variety of current topics, including this latest paper on brand value. Brands are a unique intangible asset – they are simultaneously capable of increasing revenues, reducing costs, and lowering risks. Brand values are deeply interconnected with other intangible assets. Why then do brands account for relatively less value than other intangible assets in a business combination?

Current accounting and reporting frameworks for intangible assets such as brands and reputation are misaligned with the economics, largely because the prevailing value creation strategies that existed when the standards were enacted decades ago, have evolved. How do we bring them back into alignment? As the role of brands in enterprise value creation evolves, the techniques and assumptions to measure brand value may need to change as well.
