CBV INSTITUTE ADOPTS INTERNATIONAL VALUATION STANDARDS

Chartered Business Valuators Institute (CBV Institute) proudly announces the landmark decision of its Board of Directors to adopt International Valuation Standards (IVS) as an optional framework for business valuation practice. The decision to adopt IVS (which are developed and issued by the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC)) as part of the Institute’s suite of acceptable practice standards for valuation, comes after a multi-year stakeholder consultation process. Starting immediately, CBVs have the option of using either IVS or CBV Institute’s existing valuation Practice Standards for valuation engagements (Standards 110, 120, and 130), thereby elevating the global reach of the CBV profession and solidifying CBV Institute’s commitment to a strong global valuation profession by making IVS acceptable for use in Canada.

SURVEY ON ESG AND BUSINESS RISK

Secretariat aims to better understand the current ESG landscape and its impact on business risk and operations through this annual survey targeting senior professionals in corporate operations, strategy, as well as investment and consulting professionals with a view into corporate decision-making. The focus of this survey is on whether ESG issues currently impact day-to-day operations, how, if at all, ESG factors are incorporated into business value and what issues may arise in doing so.

Results will be incorporated into Secretariat’s annual article, to be published early next year, which will be shared in CBV Matters. The results will highlight the interconnectedness of ESG considerations and business risk, aiding CBVs in refining their valuation methodologies to mirror contemporary business environments. CBVs will be able to access a rich vein of data reflecting senior professionals’ perspectives on ESG impacts, thereby enhancing the robustness and relevance of their valuation practices.

The survey, available in English, takes 5-10 minutes to complete, and is vital as an ongoing assessment of the ESG landscape. The deadline to complete it is November 30, 2023.
