SURVEY RESULTS - CALCULATION VALUATION REPORTS

The results are in for CBV Institute’s member survey on Calculation Valuation Reports conducted in December-January.  The 106 responses received are being considered by CBV Institute's Professional Practice and Standards Committee (PPSC) in order to better inform how the independent valuation standards and guidance could be revised, improved or clarified. On January 8, 2021, a Notice of Election, with supporting documentation, was emailed to the Members in the Province of Quebec. The deadline for receipt of the nomination form is March 31, 2021. IVS 500 – FINANCIAL INSTRUMENTS ED COMMENT PERIOD OPEN

The comment period for the IVS 500 Financial Instruments Exposure Draft (ED) is open until April 19th. This ED proposes a significantly different approach to the valuation of financial instruments. The objective of IVS 500 is to establish principles that will enable entities to derive fit for purpose valuations of financial instruments in all market conditions and circumstances.

CBV Institute encourages CBVs to review and provide comments, especially on areas where they may disagree.

VALUATION INSIGHT ON CHALLENGES TO MARKET VALUE

The pandemic has created significant uncertainty which has permeated all markets and led to various challenges, particularly as it relates to the availability of market information in a pandemic world. The IVSC's Tangible Assets Board has received feedback that in some markets, there is an increasing difference between Price and Value.
