QUEBEC REGIONAL DIRECTOR ELECTION

On January 8, 2021, a Notice of Election, with supporting documentation, was emailed to the Members in the Province of Quebec. The deadline for receipt of the nomination form is March 31, 2021. We encourage everyone who feels that they can make a contribution to the Board and support the CBV Institute’s vision to give consideration to seeking a nomination.

DID YOU KNOW? BVR RESOURCES – COST OF CAPITAL TOOL

CBV Institute’s BVR portal provides CBVs and Students free access to BVR’s Cost of Capital Professional, an online platform providing business valuators with equity risk premia, size premia, risk free rates, allowing users to compute cost of equity and WACC estimates. The BVR Cost of Capital tool has now been updated to include 2020 year-end data (equity risk premia, CRSP decile size premia, and industry betas/IRPs).

  • Exam Opt-Out Deadline: York University will send all Students a link to opt-out of their course exam, should they choose to. 
  • Academic Accommodations Deadline: If you are a student with Academic Accommodations, email education@cbvinstitute.com to receive a copy of your accommodations included in your Examity Profile for your records.

FASB MOVES TOWARDS GOODWILL AMORTIZATION

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has made the decision to move towards a goodwill amortization model for public companies. FASB has decided to allow entities to amortize goodwill on a straight-line basis over a 10-year default period unless they elect and justify another amortization period based on the facts and circumstances of the acquisition. FASB is performing additional research and outreach, and an Exposure Draft will be forthcoming in the future.
