CBV CONGRESS 2022 - THAT’S A WRAP!

Such an honour to host CBV Congress 2022 in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. Two days, three streams of stimulating valuation topics and cutting-edge business issues, dozens of expert speakers, renowned keynotes, and hundreds of participants engaging in robust presentations and in-person networking. We thank all presenters for sharing your insights on what’s next and inspiring us to think about the future. And we thank everyone who attended from across Canada and around the world. Save the date for CBV Congress 2023, in Toronto, June 8-9!

Our charitable partner for CBV Congress 2022 was Doctors Without Borders, which was chosen in response to the humanitarian emergency in Ukraine, and because of the organization’s role in providing assistance to those affected by the conflict. With our long history of giving back, a generous donation was made on behalf of CBVs and students to the organization.

IFRS CONSULTATION ON NEW SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS

Developments in sustainability standards continue to unfold internationally at a rapid pace. The IFRS Foundation’s new International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) has recently issued an exposure draft containing 2 new proposed standards.

Valuation and value creation is at the heart of the new disclosure standards. A key feature of the standards is a focus on enterprise value (EV), a concept that is central to the CBV profession. The disclosures are meant to allow investors to assess the effect of significant sustainability-related risks and opportunities on a company’s enterprise value. CBVs are uniquely positioned to make the link for their clients between the impact of various risks and opportunities, including ESG, on EV.

Members are encouraged to review the proposed standards and share any feedback with the Institute via email to catalina.miranda@cbvinstitute.com, by July 15th. CBV Institute remains engaged with Financial Reporting & Assurance Standards Canada (FRAS) on this important development in financial reporting.

These disclosure standards are:

  • IFRS S1: General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information
  • IFRS S2: Climate-related Disclosures

MQE 2022 - REGISTRATION OPEN

Registration for the 2022 Membership Qualification Exam (MQE) is open. The date of the 2022 MQE is Wednesday September 21, 2022.

Starting in 2022, materials for the MQE will no longer be hosted on York’s Moodle platform. All documents such as policies, mandatory course notes, past MQE booklets and solutions, and Examity information will be provided on the candidate’s account on cbvinstitute.com once they have registered.
