ESG AND PRIVATE COMPANIES: NEW THOUGHT LEADERSHIP

The latest edition of CBV Insights highlights the diverse range of work that CBVs do, by tackling the omnipresent issue of ESG. While some valuation professionals are sceptical about the impact of ESG factors on value, others believe that ESG is simply a new name for risks and opportunities that have always been worth considering in a business valuation.

Given this divergence of opinion, how can CBVs address client questions about ESG?

Taking a practical approach, eight CBVs share insights from advising private companies on ESG issues that have arisen in ownership disputes, transaction due diligence, private investments, and ESG-related legal claims.

We encourage you to read and share this article with your networks.

WEIGH IN ON ACCOUNTING FOR INTANGIBLES

There are many intangible assets that weren't considered when financial reporting standards were written. The Canadian Accounting Standards Board recognizes this and wants to hear from knowledgeable practitioners about intangible assets and whether accounting standards should be updated to help financial statement users make more informed decisions about an entity's increasingly intangible value creation activities.

The recently launched Intangibles survey explores questions such as:

  • Which are the prevalent types of intangible assets in the Canadian market (recognized and internally generated)?
  • Which types of intangibles should be recognized in the financial statements?
  • Which intangibles are not used in the operations of the business?

The survey takes 5 min to respond and will remain open until January 12, 2024. CBVs – have your say!
