CBV Institute maintains two complementary codes. The Code of Ethics governs the professional conduct of CBVs and Registered Students in their valuation practice. The Code of Conduct governs the conduct of those who act on behalf of the Institute. Together, they uphold the integrity of the profession and the Institute.
Code of Ethics
CBV Institute maintains the Code of Ethics (the “Code”) that sets the essential principles and enduring ethical standards by which Members of the Institute are expected to discharge their professional responsibilities to, and conduct their work and professional relationships with, clients, other Members, other professionals, the Institute, and the public. The Code helps maintain and safeguard the integrity, reputation, and credibility of the CBV profession and the Institute itself. The Code provides the foundation for the Institute’s complaints and disciplinary process. If the conduct of a professional is alleged to be unethical or contrary to the Code, the Institute assesses the alleged conduct vis-à-vis the principles and rules of the Code and takes disciplinary action for professional misconduct if deemed appropriate.
Code of Conduct
Who it applies to: The Institute’s officers, directors, agents, representatives, employees, volunteers, contractors, and suppliers (collectively, “Participants”) in their dealings with and for the Institute.
The Code of Conduct establishes the principles that govern how Participants behave in Institute-related activities: complying with applicable laws; acting with the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and personal conduct; offering high standards of service to Members, Registered Students, and the public; and treating everyone with equality and dignity. It complements — but does not replace — the Code of Ethics, By-laws, and policies.
The Code of Conduct covers areas including:
- Discrimination and harassment
- Conflict of interest
- Personal gains and gifts
- Confidentiality
- Use of Institute property and resources
- Intellectual property
- Community and political activities
- Alcohol and drugs
It also sets out reporting and investigation procedures, possible sanctions for violations, and an acknowledgement that all Participants sign, agreeing to abide by the Code.
