CBV Institute holds course exams to a consistent standard, from how they’re written to how results are reviewed. This page covers exam-day logistics, opt-outs, results and appeals, accommodations, and academic honesty.
Writing your exams
CBV Institute course exams are written using remote proctoring in the Registered Student’s location of choice, whether at home or at the office. Exams are recorded and may be retrieved and analyzed by CBV Institute solely to ensure the integrity of the exams.
Students are solely responsible for ensuring the computer they use meets the hardware requirements set out in the Proctored Exam Writing Guide, where you’ll also find other important information about exam day.
Exam opt-out
Registered Students who wish to opt out of an exam must do so by the deadline. Those who opt out may re-enroll in the same course at a reduced fee in the immediate subsequent term. The reduced fee applies only to the immediate subsequent term and only to Registered Students who paid the full course fee.
York University School of Continuing Studies sends two email reminders within the two weeks before the opt-out deadline. If you don’t receive them, contact [email protected].
Exam results
All results are posted to the Student’s Dashboard on the CBV Institute website, under Exams > History and Results.
Appealing exam results
Appeals are conducted only on exams that received a failing grade, and appeal decisions are final. Appeal requests must be submitted by the deadline. The fee to appeal an exam is $265 plus applicable tax.
What the appeal process covers:
- Confirms all answer books submitted by the Registered Student were received for marking
- Confirms all answers were marked and the final tally is correct
- Re-marks the answers to the examination
- Provides the Registered Student’s examination response paper and a written, question-by-question analysis showing where were missed
- Reviews and appeals are handled by an experienced marker
- Registered Students are advised only whether the review and appeal resulted in a passing or failing grade, not the specific grade achieved
For questions on the examination appeals process, email CBV Education at [email protected].
Requesting exam performance feedback
Feedback is available to Registered Students who don’t wish to appeal their mark. Requests must be made by the exam opt-out deadline in the immediately following term. The fee is $300 plus applicable tax, except for Level IV course exams, which are $350 plus applicable tax.
What the feedback process covers:
- A review of the Registered Student’s exam responses to identify areas of strength and weakness
- A memo with observations on the responses, including suggestions to improve performance on future exams
Feedback communication is final. Students will not receive additional materials or communication after the feedback is issued. To request feedback, email CBV Education at [email protected].
Accommodations for Students with a disability
Reasonable accommodations are available to Students with a documented disability. Students are responsible for applying to CBV Institute for accommodations by the required deadline. Appropriate medical, psychoeducational, or psychiatric documentation confirming the disability and the accommodation required must be included with the request. See the Accommodation Policy and Accommodation Form for details (policy effective February 27, 2025).
Requests for accommodations should be made to the Director of Education and Accreditation at [email protected].
Academic honesty
Students and MQE Candidates have an obligation to maintain the highest standards of academic honesty. Academic honesty requires that no one attempt to gain an improper advantage in an academic evaluation in any way.
Suspected breaches are investigated by the Institute and/or its designate, in accordance with CBV Institute’s Academic Honesty Policy.
