• Updating your profile
• Paying 2021 membership fees
• Submitting mandatory CPD and Practice Inspection declarations by March 1st

CBV INSTITUTE BOARD OF EXAMINERS  VOLUNTEERS NEEDED 

CBV Institute is seeking Members who wish to sit on the 2021 Board of Examiners. The mandate of the Board of Examiners is to approve the MQE and inform the Board of Directors of the Candidates who have obtained a passing mark on the MQE. Specifically, the Board of Examiners will:

• Oversee the overall quality of the MQE development, evaluation, and marking process,
• Review and approve the final results of the MQE,
• Report annually on the overall MQE process and results,
• Recommend improvements to the MQE development or evaluation processes, and
• Assist in the development of test bank question(s)

The Board of Examiners operates as an advisory council of CBV Institute and works closely with the Institute’s Director of Education and Accreditation and the MQE Coordinator. The Institute will strive to ensure that the practice area demographic diversity of both the students in the Institute’s Program of Studies and the Institute’s Members is reflected in the Board of Examiners. Previous exam writing or marking experience is helpful, but not necessary.

NEW INTERNATIONAL VALUATION GLOSSARY OPEN FOR COMMENT

CBVs and Students are invited to comment by January 31, 2021.

We are pleased to announce the new International Valuation Glossary – Business Valuation is now available for comment. This extensive new Glossary will advance and replace CBV Institute’s Practice Bulletin No. 2 - International Glossary of Business Valuation Terms. It was developed in a joint effort with other major global Valuation Professional Organizations (VPO’s). All participating VPO’s will be moving to adopt the Glossary, including CBV Institute.

As part of our due process, an exposure draft is being released for comment to ensure this new resource meets the needs of the CBV profession. CBV Institute is committed to the highest quality of professional standards and guidance. Your feedback is an important part of achieving that goal.

NEW IVSC PERSPECTIVES PAPER: DEFINING & ESTIMATING "SOCIAL VALUE"

The concept of Social Value is in its infancy. However, with an increased focus on governance and transparency, it has the potential to become a more prominent part of the standard reporting framework for investments and financial management decisions. The IVSC Perspectives Paper on this topic explores this emerging valuation topic and how Social Value should be reflected in the valuation process.

IVSC EXPOSES NEW STANDARD FOR VALUATION OF FINANCIAL INSTRUMENTS

IVSC’s exposure draft on IVS 500 – Financial Instruments is open for comment until April 19, 2021.  The proposed new standard is a significantly different approach to underpin the valuation of financial instruments, to enhance the credibility and reliability of valuations of financial instruments.

The draft standard establishes principles that will enable entities to derive fit-for-purpose valuations of financial instruments in all market conditions and circumstances, and for whatever purpose it is required, including for financial, tax and regulatory reporting.
