The deadline to opt out of exams is Tuesday, June 25.

York University will send all students a link to opt-out of their course exam if they so wish. After opting-out of an exam, a reduced re-enrolment price will automatically apply when you register for that course in the next semester. Students will not be permitted to opt-out of their exam after this deadline.

Registration for CBV Institute’s Membership Qualification Exam (MQE) is closing soon. The deadline is June 28 with the exception of those students writing their last exam in the 2024 Summer Term.

SEEKING PART-TIME ACADEMIC ADVISOR

CBV Institute is seeking an experienced and dedicated CBV to support our Education Department in the role of Academic Advisor (as a part-time independent contractor).

The Institute’s Academic Advisors play a pivotal role in the Institute’s Program of Studies and act as an intermediary between the course instructors and Institute staff. This pivotal role collaborates with another Academic Advisor to support the delivery, evaluation, and enhancement of our Program of Studies, administered in partnership with York University.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in education and business valuation, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining and improving the highest standards of our educational offerings. Experience with testing and assessment in business/ finance education would be considered an asset. This role will specifically involve oversight of Level II, Level III, Corporate Finance, and Private Investments courses.

SPONSORED RESEARCH INITIATIVE – REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

Proposals for CBV Institute’s annual Sponsored Research Initiative are due by September 9, 2024.

CBV Institute welcomes all submissions that further innovative research in the business valuation field, including from students of the CBV program and from CBVs at any stage of their career. Submissions are also welcomed from academics and professionals who do not hold the CBV designation but who work in complementary areas such as accounting, finance, economics, data science, and litigation.

The winning proposal can be on any under-explored topic of relevance to business valuation practitioners. Top-of-mind topics include: (1) ESG/sustainability (e.g., how ESG considerations – beyond their purely financial aspect – may be taken into account in business valuation); (2) Generative AI (e.g., how to value generative AI processes as part of an organization's value-creation process); (3) lingering effects of Covid (e.g., shifts to the labour market and other costs); and (4) intangible assets.

CBV Institute provides compensation of $10,000 for completion of the selected research project.

RESEARCH CORNER: IASB RESOURCE ON INTANGIBLE ASSETS

CBV Institute is pleased to share an academic literature review on Intangible Assets by The Accounting Standards Board (IASB). The IASB’s review includes approximately 90 academic research papers on a broad range of topics, including the challenges of disclosing useful information about intangibles, the role of the income statement in providing information about unrecognised intangible assets, and the value relevance of R&D or SG&A costs, among may others.
