CBV Institute is proud to announce a new three-year partnership with the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business, the first university partnership of its kind in Western Canada. This collaboration provides students with a direct pathway into the Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designation, Canada’s premier credential in business valuation.

Through this partnership, eligible Haskayne students who successfully complete the new elective course will be granted an exemption from Level 1 of the CBV Program of Studies. This exemption allows them to accelerate their journey toward the CBV designation while completing their undergraduate degree.

CBV Institute President & CEO Dr. Christine Sawchuk underscored the profession’s growing relevance: “Business valuation is a critical function in today’s economy. Whether advising on a merger, assessing economic losses in litigation, or supporting financial reporting, CBVs play a vital role in ensuring transparency and fairness in financial markets.” She added that partnering with Haskayne “helps develop the next generation of valuation professionals.”

The pathway aligns with Haskayne’s emphasis on career-ready education, preparing students for roles across high-demand areas such as mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, litigation support, financial reporting, and private equity. As Dr. Gina Grandy, Dean of Haskayne School of Business, explains, the initiative fits squarely with the school’s mission: “Haskayne provides students with a transformative, future-focused educational experience, and this partnership with CBV Institute offers a way for students to enhance their professional credibility in Canada’s high-growth financial sectors.”

Beginning in the winter semester, eligible undergraduate students at Haskayne can enroll in the new course. Successful completion will count toward the CBV Program of Studies and shorten the path to the designation—equipping students with foundational valuation knowledge they can build on throughout their careers.

Advance your path with course exemptions

Course exemptions recognize accredited university coursework that substantially aligns with the CBV Program of Studies. They can shorten the journey by granting credit for specific levels, such as Level I at Haskayne, when eligibility criteria are met. Requirements, recognized courses, and documentation (e.g., minimum grades, transcripts) vary by institution and are confirmed by CBV Institute.
