We provide business valuation, income determination, loss quantification, forensic accounting, and litigation support services in matters involving family law litigation, commercial litigation, shareholder disputes and buyouts, estate planning and litigation, tax planning and reorganizations, and transaction advisory support.

The majority of our work relates to family law litigation. We are regularly engaged to prepare independent financial reports for use in negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and trial.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join our team in a full-time hybrid role with flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should have, or be pursuing, a CPA designation, and should have an interest in business valuation, litigation support, forensic accounting, income analysis, and related financial matters. Applicants who have obtained (Senior Associate role), are pursuing, or intend to pursue the CBV designation (Associate role) are preferred.

The successful candidate will assist with, and depending on experience may take a lead role in, valuation, income, forensic accounting, and litigation support engagements.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing business valuation reports and related financial analyses;
  • Preparing income determination analyses pursuant to the Federal Child Support Guidelines;
  • Reviewing and analyzing corporate and personal financial disclosure;
  • Performing financial modelling, normalization analyses, income available for support analyses, and valuation calculations;
  • Assisting with forensic accounting assignments, including tracing, lifestyle analysis, shareholder loan analysis, and review of discretionary expenses;
  • Supporting loss quantification and commercial litigation matters;
  • Drafting expert reports, schedules, and supporting documentation;
  • Assisting with client meetings, counsel communications, mediation and settlement preparation, and trial preparation;
  • Identifying key financial issues, disclosure gaps, and areas requiring further analysis; and
  • Working collaboratively with partners and other team members to deliver high-quality work.

An Associate will typically work on discrete analyses, schedules, report sections, and supporting deliverables, with guidance from senior team members and partners.

A Senior Associate will be expected to take greater responsibility for reviewing disclosure, identifying issues, developing analyses, drafting reports, communicating with clients and counsel, and moving engagements forward, with partner support throughout.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have some or all of the following:

  • CPA designation (Senior Associate role);
  • CBV designation, enrolment in the CBV program, or an interest in pursuing the CBV designation (Associate role);
  • Experience in business valuation, litigation support, forensic accounting, audit, tax, or corporate finance;
  • Prior experience with family law matters would be an asset;
  • Strong financial analysis, accounting, and financial modelling skills;
  • Proficiency in Excel;
  • Experience preparing valuation reports, income reports, expert reports, financial schedules, and supporting documentation;
  • Knowledge of corporate and personal income taxation in Canada;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage timelines effectively;
  • Attention to detail and sound professional judgment; and
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment.
