FCBV Designation
Granting of the Fellow designation is the highest honour CBV Institute confers. The FCBV recognizes those Members who have demonstrated acknowledged achievements in the following fields of activity:

  • Provided distinguished service to the business valuation profession; and
  • Brought significant recognition to the business valuation profession.

The designation of Life Member is granted to Members who have attained eminence in the field of business valuation and who have retired from active practice as a business valuator.

SEEKING MQE MARKERS

We are seeking qualified CBV markers for the upcoming 2024 Membership Qualification Exam, which will be held on November 2 and 3, 2024. New markers will be compensated $650 per day. We invite applications from both English and French-speaking markers who are interested in contributing to this important event.

BV CHALLENGE REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

CBV Institute is pleased to announce that registration for BV Challenge 2024 is now OPEN. BV Challenge 2024 will take place on November 6 & 7, 2024.

The first-place team will be awarded $10,000. Second and third place will receive $5,000 and $2,500, respectively. CBV Institute will accept 30 teams into the competition; a maximum of two teams per university can participate.

All participants will have the opportunity to attend a training session on October 23, 2024 to learn the basics of business valuation that can then be applied to the case study.

2024 IVSC AGENDA CONSULTATION

The IVSC has launched its 2024 Agenda Consultation to shape the future of International Valuation Standards (IVS). This triennial consultation invites a broad range of stakeholders—including valuation practitioners, valuation professional organizations, financial institutions, investors, academics, corporations, and regulators—to provide their insights on crucial valuation topics.

The goal is to gather diverse feedback that will guide the ongoing development and refinement of IVS. By engaging with the global valuation community, the IVSC aims to ensure that the standards remain relevant and responsive to emerging needs and priorities.

You can share your input in writing or via the online form by October 9, 2024.

Agenda Consultation Roundtables: 

As part of the 2024 Agenda Consultation, the IVSC has announced that two virtual roundtable sessions are scheduled for September 17 and 19, 2024. These sessions provide a valuable opportunity for valuation professionals and other stakeholders to engage directly with the IVSC’s technical boards. Participants will also have the chance to contribute to live polling and discussions, actively influencing the future direction of the International Valuation Standards.

Call for CONNECT 2025 Volunteers

Deadline to Respond – September 18, 2024

CBV Institute is seeking Planning Committee volunteers for CONNECT 2025 (June 12 & 13 in Toronto).

The Planning Committee is divided into three streams – Core BV, Litigation and Deals. Members of each Planning Committee will identify thought-provoking valuation topics and timely business issues in their designated stream as well as secure expert speakers who can provide robust, in-depth presentations.

BVR RESOURCES: AI IN BUSINESS VALUATION

According to a July BVR event poll, the vast majority (87%) of business valuation professionals in attendance had explored using AI in their practices. And over half (52%) predicted that AI would “significantly change” how they work, over the long term.

Transcripts for this BVR event, 2024 AI in Business Valuation: A BVR Live Virtual Conference, are now available. The event covered a wide array of topics, including an overview of the AI ecosystem, some examples of using AI in valuation practice, how to assess the impacts of AI when valuing a subject company, and how to use AI in marketing your practice.
