The wine industry in British Columbia generates an estimated $2 billion in economic activity annually. It employs over 10,000 people and contributes close to $225 million in taxes. Currently, there are an estimated 240 grape wine wineries licensed in the Province with over 864 vineyards operating on close to 10,000 acres of land. In recent years, the wine industry has witnessed increasing M&A activity and, while the process and metrics of valuing wineries are often talked about, they are quite often misunderstood. Mr. Ingram will provide an overview of the wine industry in B.C., discuss the impact Bill C-311 has had on the industry over the last year, and share his personal experiences in approaching the valuation of winery assets (including the metrics which are most often misunderstood by industry participants and their advisors).
